The Feng Shui Guide to Spring Cleaning and Decluttering

Average reading time is 2.5 minutes.

Welcome spring with positive energy!

Spring cleaning is a ritual for many of us. It makes our homes more inviting, and it helps us maintain a healthy, stress-free environment. Emotionally, by clearing out the old and stale, we prepare for a fresh start. In feng shui, spring cleaning is more than just tidying up; it's about clearing stagnant energy and making room for new, positive chi (energy) to flow through the spaces of your home. Below are five steps to effective spring cleaning and decluttering feng shui style:

1.       Declutter Each Room:

  • Living Room: Remove excess furniture and decorative items. Keep only what you love and use regularly.

  • Kitchen: Clear out expired food, clean appliances, and organize cabinets. A clean kitchen promotes health and prosperity.

  • Bedroom: Remove items stored under the bed, as they can disrupt sleep. Organize closets and dressers.

  • Bathroom: Clear counters, organize toiletries, and clean thoroughly to promote purification and renewal.

2.       Entryway Focus:

  • The entrance is a primary gateway for the energy that enters your space and life. Keep it clean and welcoming. Add a doormat, clean windows, and ensure good lighting.

  • A note about mirrors in the entrance. When facing directly opposite the door, mirrors are believed to reflect the energy back out of the home. Mirrors in the dining room or over a fireplace mantle are considered good as they expand the sense of space and abundance.

3.       Cleaning Tips:

  • Windows: Clean windows with a vinegar solution to allow natural light, allowing vibrant energy, to flow into your home.

  • Floors: Clean floors thoroughly to remove accumulated dust and energy blockages.

  • Corners: Pay special attention to corners, where stagnant energy tends to accumulate. Again, the idea behind thorough cleaning is to freshen the environment thereby promoting positive energies to flow through your home.

4.       Refresh with Natural Elements:

  • Plants: Add fresh, healthy plants to enhance life energy.

  • Water: Incorporate water features like fountains to stimulate flow and abundance.

  • Aromatherapy: Use essential oils like lavender or eucalyptus to cleanse the air and promote a fresh atmosphere.

5.       Energy Clearing:

  • Perform an energy clearing ritual using sage, incense, or sound (bells, singing bowls) to remove negative energy and invite positive chi.

This year think about how you might incorporate a little feng shui into your spring cleaning. Think in terms of the positive energy, positive chi, that your efforts bring to your home. By thoroughly cleaning and organizing your space, you can enhance the flow of energy and create a fresh, invigorating environment.
